Micro Stock
Micro stock (or microstock) is a label given to the low cost or budget side of stock photography.
There are two main reasons this term is popular.
First, this micro stock section of stock photography has allowed photo buyers that can not afford, or do not want to pay, the higher prices of the “traditional” stock photo market to now purchase stock images. This price point has created a whole new stock photo buyer market. You can find out more about buying micro stock photos here.
Second, the micro stock portion of the stock photography industry was created by “amateurs”. This allowed markets that was once held tight by the “professional” stock photographers to be entered by hobbyists and part time photographers. You can find out more about selling your stock photos here.
